PEACHY COOCHY MORNING - Feb 09

Pecha Kucha events are now springing up all over the world - they orginated in Japan and the term literally means 'chit chat'. A Pecha Kucha (or Peachy Coochy as David Gale of Artsadmin calls it) is an illustrated talk - 20 projected images X 20 seconds each = 6mins, 40secs. Done well these are funny, profound, inspiring and hugely entertaining. On 18th Art, Event, Performance students will give their take on the artform, starting at 10am in our new Hepworth Building Studio.

LEEDS LIGHT NIGHT - Oct 08

The degree kicked off with a baptism of fire for the students - two weeks in collaboration with The Met Gallery and Studio Theatre, to make a five hour multi-media performance event for Light Night. The event was a massive success, with over 2500 audience on the night. One person reported that our work was something like 'Urban planning by Daft Punk!' High praise indeed. The students were exhausted and thrilled with the results which launched this fantastic degree to the University, the city and to the international Live Arts scene. A brilliant night.

THE NATIONAL REVIEW OF LIVE ART Feb 09

We've just come back from our residential at The National Review of Live Art in Glasgow. Here the students engaged with a fantastic spectrum of performances from contemporary devised theatre and dance to the most challenging live art and body practices. We had a fantastic time, finishing each night with a good old party at the festival club. The NLRA is an event that is at the heart of this course's spirit and ethos - it's archive is a wonderful place to look at the sort of things that interest this study. Have a look at the links page for more info!

THE PERCIPHONY PROJECT May 09

inspired by the sonic art and musical inventions of the well known artist Walt Shaw, the students are building individual instruments that they will then use pick ups to live mix and play. Once these are made, the ensemble intends to create a Gamelan inspired concert to be premiered in May. We might even convince Shaw to jam along!

ON THE DJ CLUBNIGHT! - May 2009

Half the group are currently working with DJ Lucy Locket, learning how handle decks (Technics 1200’s – only the best here!), and developing that skill to beat mixing. We will be holding a club night (venue and date TBA) in May, wherein the students will run mini sets. We also have state of art Pioneer VJ decks and will be moving our attention onto those shortly!!
